中秋节刚过，平湖中学校园网和校报编辑部意外收到一首出自老外笔下的英文诗《Pinghu Under the Harvest Moon（平湖秋月）》，诗的作者是平中国际部美方教师格伦.瑞特先生——一个理科背景的中学教师，这让我们在感到惊讶的同时敬佩其深厚的人文素养。
2013年的中秋佳节，平湖中学国际部美方教师Mr.Glen Ritter是在中国平湖度过的。对于独在异乡为异客的Ritter个人来说，在江南水乡平湖过中国传统佳节中秋节尚属首次，这当然是一个别具纪念意义的经历。中秋月夜，他流连于美丽的东湖景区，亲眼见证“月光如水水如天”的胜景，亲身体验“天上的月亮在水里，水里的月亮在天上”的诗境，不由灵感顿生，诗兴勃发，遂写下了这首抒情诗——平湖秋月。
瑞特在诗中这样吟唱东湖——中秋满月下/我恋上/一个地方/它的美令人惊艳/这座多桥的城市/沐浴在暮色里/从蓝紫到红/被各色的光浣洗 // 树木翩翩起舞/仿佛惟有它们/可以听见/夜晚吟唱的歌谣/它古老的歌词/来自遥远的时代/那时的平湖还很年轻 // 在今夜/就连那日落渐暗的天色/也绚丽夺目/还有那月儿/那么大，那么亮/仿佛它照耀的/只有东湖/湖面风平浪静/宛若明镜/映射出千年的历史/永远昭示着/一个兴旺繁荣的/前景 // 中秋佳节/月饼和明月光/或许属于整个中国/可是在今夜/平湖的月儿最明（杨颖涛 译）
瑞特的诗功力扎实，情感真挚、意境优美、语言精致，虚实相生，读来回味不止。诗中我们不难读出Ritter对水乡平湖的赞美，同时，透过这赞美，我们也隐约读出了一个游子深藏在诗句缝隙中的淡淡乡思。
瑞特现在平湖中学国际部执教，在美方教师团队中担任主任老师。他曾在美国中学任教13年，任职学科主任、教务长，深受学生爱戴。擅长教学初级微积分、生物、化学、环境科学、大学先修化学、大学先修生物等。课外活动指导学生的篮球和网球，以及学生会工作。（平湖中学 芦笛）

under a Harvest Moon
with a place
of unexpected beauty
a city of bridges
bathed in darkness
cleansed by a spectrum of light
from violet to red
Trees seemed to dance
as if the night
sang a song
only they could hear
with ancient lyrics
from a time
when Pinghu was young
On this night
even shadows
seemed to glow
and the moon
appeared too large and bright
as if it shone
only over East Lake
with waters so still
they were like mirrors
reflecting a thousand years
of history
while pointing always
toward a future
filled with
promise and prosperity

moon cakes and moon light
may belong to all of China
